Hugo Crosthwaite - XI Femsa Bienal Monterrey

Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is thrilled to announce that Hugo Crosthwaite has been awarded the Grand Prize at the XI Bienal FEMSA Monterrey. The winning work is titled Tijuana Radiant Shine No. 1 (2014), graphite and acrylic paint on panel, and measures 31 x 61 inches (79 x 176 cm). 

Jurors for the 11th edition of the biennial included artists Betsabee Romero and Pierre Olivier Arnaud, curator Gilberto Vicario, and critics Ramiro Martinez and Agustin Arteaga. XI Bienal FEMSA Monterrey opened August 14, 2014 at the Centro de las Artes in Monterrey, Nuevo León, and will travel to Mexico City and abroad. The exhibition includes 65 works by 40 artists. 

Since its inception, 26 artists have won the Grand Acquisition Prize, which is accompanied by a monetary award of 200,000 Mexican pesos. The winning art work becomes part of the FEMSA Art Collection, one of the most important art collections in Latin America. Founded in 1890, FEMSA is a leading beverage company in Mexico and Latin America and the world's largest bottler of Coca-Cola. 

Established in 1992, the FEMSA Biennial was instituted with the purpose of recognizing, strengthening, encouraging and promoting artistic creation in Mexico. Over the past two decades the Biennal has become one of the most important visual arts events in Mexico and has also gained international prestige on par with other international biennials.
